    A Guide On Potting Mix

No doubt, people love to do gardening, but many do not have that much of sufficient space in their houses to do gardening in an open area. Hence, they prefer to have plants in pots. This technique is highly used in houses that are small, but people want the presence of plants there. However, the issue here is how to grow plants in pots, as when it is done on the ground in an open area, then natural soil is present, which is good for growing plants. However, in the case of pots, there is no natural soil. For this, the potting mix works for the plants. Now the question is what stands for potting mix. Let us have a glance over it.

For growing plants in containers, potting soil is done, or you can say compost is pot. By doing so, a good environment or condition is provided to the plants that are favorable for their growth. There is availability of potting mixes in the market. However, the quality differs in all the potting mixes. However, if you want to have the best potting mix, then you can go for Canna Terra Professional. It is nutrient-rich, so plants grow the best.

There are certain things that you should be aware of while using potting mix:

The peat that you use for your plants has a more acidic content. Therefore, there is a need to add lime to raise the pH level. However, how much lime needs to be added by the person is influenced by the composition of the peat.

Talking about on an average basis, then there is a need to add 5 to 6 kg of lime in 1000 liters. The work is not done immediately after adding the lime; there is a requirement of a few weeks so that the pH level can stabilize. However, if lime is not added by the individual or the person adds the lime but not how much is required, then there will be overfeeding. Overfeeding happens as there will be high concentrations of certain nutrients, which can be highly dangerous for the plants. The acidic content in the potting soil should be around 5.8 and 6.2.

How to measure nutrients in the potting mix?

If you want to check nutrients in the potting mix, then you can follow a procedure for the same. Let us discuss that.

    • Firstly, use a spoon to take a sample of the potting mix. However, note one thing: do not take samples from one place only; instead, prefer to take samples from different places.
    • Now, take a bowl and put the sample in it to check the moisture. To check the moisture, take the sample in your hand and sequence the sample; you will come to know whether there is moisture or not. If there is less moisture, then add distilled water and make sure to mix the potting mix with the water as you are pouring.
    • In the next step, take a jug, which should be 250 ml, put water in the 150 ml, and then add potting mix in the next 100 ml and leave for 2 hours.
    • After two hours, mix the whole mixture one more time, and now it is the perfect time to measure the pH level. To measure the pH and EC levels, you need to filter the mixture first.

    Germination of the seed:

    • Take a glass of water and put the seeds in it. Make sure that you change the water every other day. When you do this, you will notice a small root that starts to develop from the seeds.
    • Now, take any pot and put that germinated seed in it. Put it in a hole, which should be about 2 to 3 centimeters deep. Now, use a potting mix to cover the seed.
    • After a week or after some time, a plant will start to develop. Make sure that for the potting mix, you use Canne Terra Professional only, which is the best in quality and provides good results.
